Three of the Consultant team’s experts undertook a field visit to Bua Yai Subdistrict on 25 and 26 November 2021. Team leaders Dr. Nathsuda Pumijumnong and Dr. Danuwat Pengont, along with climate-smart soil and water management specialist Dr. Avishek Datta, visited Villages 1, 3, 5, and 8 to check potential water sources. The team discussed with village elders/headmen on these sites being possible demonstration areas for climate-smart agricultural practices.
The team travelled to Village 2 on the second day of the field visit. This particular village was reported to have 2 water sources, with one of the sources being far and the other being close to the local administrative area. The team also visited Village 4, where there were no water sources to be pumped during the dry season. Similar conditions were found in Villages 6 and 7, with no artificial ponds for water storage and only an ephemeral stream running through it. This would be an issue during the dry season.
The team will make another visit to the area in the following month, after which a concrete decision will be made regarding the location of the pilot demonstrations.
